| The Seventh Conference of the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition National Organizing Committee held in Beijing | | 28/04/2009 09:51:01 | On April 23, the Seventh Conference of the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition National Organizing Committee, also the Domestic Participation Conference was held in Beijing. Wang Qishan, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of the State Council and Chairperson of the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition National Organizing Committee, and Yu Zhengsheng, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Vice Chairman of the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition National Organizing Committee attended the conference and delivered speeches.
It was emphasized at the conference that all regions and departments should seriously carry out the decisions and arrangements made by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on holding a successful, magnificent and unforgettable Expo by getting a clear understanding of the situation, enhancing senses of pressure and responsibility, overcoming difficulties and making full use of both domestic and international intellect and strength, to promote economic, technological and cultural exchanges among various countries all over the world, to spread the concept of human civilization and development, and to showcase the remarkable achievements of China, especially the immense change since its adoption of the reform and opening up drive and the image of the Chinese people as a civilized, advanced and open force.
Wang Qishan delivered a keynote speech, stating that the Shanghai Expo is another worldwide grand gathering after the Beijing Olympic Games and is actually called the Olympics of economy, technology and culture, having brought along development in economy, technology and culture for those countries through holding world expositions.
Wang also said that the Shanghai World Expo 2010 would be a platform for countries, organizations and enterprises to showcase the latest innovations in urban development; that it would help enhance understanding and friendship in the international community and strengthen joint efforts to fight against world trade protectionism.
Wang emphasized that there was only one year to go before the Expo and therefore the situation is urgent; that all regions and departments should attach great importance to the Expo, give the systematic advantage of uniting strength to manage big course its full play, mobilize the enthusiasm of all circles, reinforce coordination and collaboration to make joint efforts, hold out quality service and pay attention to details. Major work on news publicity, security check, and foreign affairs, etc should be done with full strength to assure the progress of all aspects of preparation.
Yu Zhengsheng noted that with vigorous support from member units of the organizing committee, regions across the country and all relevant sides, the preparation have made substantial progress so far; that Shanghai would continue to follow the uniform arrangement of the CPC Central Committee and the requirement of the organizing committee, place the preparation of the Expo in an even more outstanding position , strengthen leadership and mobilize all forces of the city, further enhance the awareness of the serving the whole nation to provide better service to all Expo participants, and building an excellent platform for the national operation of the Expo.
Vice Mayor Yang Xiong of Shanghai and CCPIT Chairman Wan Jifei reported the preparation progress of the Shanghai Expo to the conference about the work carried out by member units of the organizing committee and provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government. Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission reported the work of the news publicity, safety and security and foreign affairs coordination as well as the participation of enterprise directly under the central government. Delegates of Heilongjiang Province, Jiangsu Province and Tibet Autonomous Region respectively carried out exchanges and made speeches.
Members of the Shanghai Expo Organizing Committee, leaders of relevant departments, heads of provincial governments and state-owned enterprises attended the conference.
