On April 25, Mr. Wang Jinzhen, Vice-Chairman of CCPIT, Member of the National Organizing Committee of the Shanghai World Expo and China’s Chief Representative at BIE, paid a visit to Madame Ellen Eliasoph, the US representative in charge of its participation in the Shanghai 2010 World Expo in Washington D.C.

The U.S. State Department released on his website on April 18 its letter of intention signed to participate in the Shanghai 2010 World Expo and the news that it appointed the Covington & Burling Law Firm, Madame Eliasoph of the firm and Mr. Nick Winslow, an expert of the leisure industry respectively as the institute and representatives in charge of U.S.’s participation in the Shanghai World Expo. According to its federal laws, the U.S. government had no fund to support its participation in the world expo approved by the BIE so it entrusted the organizing and coordinating work of participation in the Shanghai World Expo to private institutes.

Vice-Chairman Wang Jinzhen said that it was a significant approach for the U.S. government to authorize the Covington & Burling Law Firm to be in charge of the participation work. He expected the U.S. party to seize the opportunity and accelerate its fund raising process to ensure that the construction of the U.S. Pavilion be successfully launched and turn out world’s first-class state pavilion at the expo. He also introduced to the U.S. party in detail the organizational structure, preparation progress, state pavilions, enterprises pavilions and the best urban practice area. He said that CCPIT and the Shanghai World Expo Coordinating Bureau will vigorously assist the U.S. in its participation.

Madame Eliasoph said that it was a challenging task to accept the U.S. Government’s entrust to organize and coordinate its participation in the Shanghai World Expo. She personally hopes to carry out the construction and operation of the U.S. Pavilion in an effective way and she will lead the staff to face the challenge, overcome difficulties and guarantee U.S.’s successful participation in the Shanghai World Expo.

CCPIT’s Chief Representative Xu Chenbin and other officials accompanied the meeting.
