The opening gala of the new CIEC on March, 28 has attracted wide attention both at home and abroad. Distinguished guests have been invited to cut the ribbon, including Bai Lichen, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, Gu Xiulian, former vice president of the CPC National Committee, and Hao Jianxiu, former vice president of the CPPCC National Committee. CCPIT Chairman Wan Jifei, and Du Yuzhou, head of China’s Textile Industry Association, delivered speeches. On the same day, the first exhibition for new CIEC attracted a lot of attention— the 16th China International Fashion Fair has gathered more than 1000 exhibitors across the world, as well as visitors estimated at 100 thousand.

On behalf of constructing and administrating force of the new CIEC, Wan Jifei delivered a speech. According to his speech, construction of new CIEC has been carried out by CCPIT independently through market operation. During the construction period, difficulties such as lack of funds, experience, and stuff have been overcome by CCPIT with the support from national authorities and Beijing municipality, as well as from the public. Wan said that the new CIEC is now one of the largest and most comprehensive exhibition centers at home, also of world-class. The new CIEC will relieve Beijing’s awkwardness of lacking modern exhibiting facilities, and thus carries great significance in driving the service industry and facilitating Beijing’s development towards an international exhibition metropolis. Compared to the new logo and landmark of Beijing, new CIEC will highlight the history of Chinese exhibition industry.
The new CIEC is located in business district of Tianzhu Airport Town in Shunyi District of Beijing, adjoining the Capital International Airport in the east and the Wenyu River ecological belt in the wet. Covering an area of 155.5 hectares, its ground construction area is 660,000 m2. The total area for Phase I covers 431,240 m2, with 355,000 m2 on ground and 75,240 underground. Exhibition halls and facilities cover total areas of 243, 970 m2. So far, altogether 8 halls have been completed within Phase I, including facilities such as multi-purpose building, power center and warehouse. When Phase I completes, on-ground exhibition halls will cover total areas of 100,000 m2, average floorage to be 12,500 m2 per hall.
Wan said that the opening of new CIEC has pleased hundreds of exhibition organizers. So far schedules have been booked one after another. Besides the 16th China International Fashion Fair and coming 10th Beijing International Auto Fair, this year will continue to witness dozens of events in new CIEC, such as petrol exhibition, golf exhibition, telecommunication show, sports expo, stage lighting exhibition, and machine tool exhibition. Wan said that new CIEC will guarantee all of these events with world-class facilities and world-class services.
Also attending the opening gala were officials from national ministries, the Chinese Central Government’s Liaison Office in Macao, and Beijing municipality, foreign ambassadors, and delegates from foreign trade associations in China as well as exhibition industries.
