2010 World Expo mascot unveiled in Shanghai

The mascot for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo was unveiled during a ceremony at the Shanghai Grand Stage in Shanghai December 18, 2007. An honor ceremony for China Pavilion donators was also held during the gala. At the ceremony, top officials including Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng, CCPIT Chairman Wan Jifei, deputy Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng, and deputy Minister of Construction Huang Wei, handed honorary awards to the earliest donators. On behalf of the Expo organizing committee, these officials launched the designated website for China Pavilion donators.

 

Secretary-general of BIE has sent a congratulatory letter from BIE’s headquarter in Paris, speaking highly of this grand gala. The shape of “Haibao” has been inspired by the Chinese character “ren”. Through this mascot, the importance the expo attaches to human has also been unveiled. It is believed that “Haibao” is becoming a popular symbol to showcase the expo theme of “Better City, Better Life”.

 

The mascot for the World Expo is always designed to incorporate the most significant features of the host country, to showcase the historical, cultural and social background of the host country. “Haibao” for 2010 World Expo shapes based on the Chinese character “ren”, which combines Chinese culture and the designing tradition of expo mascot.

 

 At the honor ceremony for China Pavilion donators, the Shanghai Bureau of World Expo has awarded 30 representatives out of the donators, ranging from oversea Chinese to entrepreneurs, from financial elites to religious group, from elementary students to industry workers.

 

The donation system for China Pavilion receives social donation of 1 yuan and more. It is launched to draw Chinese people all around the world into the Shanghai Expo. Donators can connect the donation office through telephone, direct mail or website jz.expo2010china.com.

 

Cai Guofeng, director of CCPIT Exhibition Department and also deputy director of Liaison Group for the Expo Organizing Committee, was present at the ceremony.
